About Us

Hawthorne Learning Solutions has helped over 1,000 students achieve their goals. Founded in 2012, we’ve taken our passion for learning and genuine interest in students and used it to help families thrive.

As teachers and parents ourselves, we know that parent and student expectations are often a source of conflict and stress.

We listen, provide honest feedback, and form a plan of how to best support your child’s education. We create a space for safe, open communication—allowing us to set realistic expectations and create the best educational plan for your student.

Our Team

blue quoteI can't thank Matt and Emma enough for their dedication to my kids and the personal interest they took in their success.

Emma Hawthorne, M. Ed. and Ed. S.

Emma has twenty years of experience working with parents and students as a teacher and administrator. Her expertise in academic strategies and knowledge of school systems form the base of the services offered by HLS. She has extensive training in special education law and policy, as well as administrative leadership.

As an administrator in charge of student achievement and as a special education teacher for a variety of school districts nationwide, she has worked with students of all ages and learning styles. Also, as part of Western Washington University, Emma oversees student teachers in local schools, providing feedback on instruction technique and classroom management. She actively tutors students at HLS and does all of the company’s advocacy.

Matt Hawthorne, M. A.

Matt has taught in diverse fields and at all age levels, from elementary to college, for the last decade. Strong in both the liberal arts and sciences, Matt is our lead instructor for SAT/ACT prep courses and primary high school and college tutor.

With a Master of Arts in English from the University of Oregon, he’s an excellent resource for students experiencing challenges in English or who need help composing papers in any subject. A published writer and former journalist, Matt uses these skills to help students succeed in the daunting task of writing papers.

Yes, we accompany families to IEP and 504 meetings, as well as other situations at the school where you may need our support.

All of our time is important—we value your time and ours.

We request notice of change of availability or cancellations by Thursday at noon of the week prior. Cancellations and changes made after this will be charged in full. This is to avoid changes that cause work on our end and impact other families as we request time/day changes.

If you are late, we will text and call you after 5 minutes. After 15 minutes, the meeting will be closed and there will be a cancellation charge.
